Tour de Birch 2011 MTB Relay Race

OUTLINE::

Tour de Birch is a school mountain bike relay race open to all students from grade 3 to 12 . It will be held at Birch Ski Area near Roseisle Manitoba (click here for directions). The race event is situated in one of Manitoba's most thrilling mountain biking areas.

The technical difficulty of the race is aimed towards novice and expert cyclists. Grades 3-6 ride along rolling hills while grades 7-12 can choose between a novice or expert course. Teams can share 1-2 bikes but are encouraged to have more than 1 bike in case of mechanical break-downs.

Beverages, hotdogs and snacks will be available for sale on site at our canteen.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS ::

  • Thursday, September 29, 2011:

 9:30 to 10:30 am  Bike inspection and registration
 11:00 am  Race Start
 2:30 pm  Awards presentation and bike draw

EVENT FEES ::

  • $12.00 per rider

RACE FORMAT RUNDOWN ::

Each team must consists of at least 3 or no more than 4 riders. Each team must complete 8 laps of the mountain biking course with each team member completing two laps, assuming the team consists of 4 members. If the team has 3 members then two riders will have to complete three laps. Each time a rider completes a lap they must tag off to another member in the transition zone. Whichever team completes all 8 laps first wins their race category and has the bragging rights to the race (not to mention prizes).

The course will be laid out the day beforehand however access will be restricted.

SAFETY

All bikes must pass a safety inspection, situated on site, in order to be used in the race. There will be a bike technician on hand to do minor repairs if needed. Bikes that pass the inspection will be tagged with the appropriate course identification.

ALL RACERS MUST WEAR A CSA APPROVED BIKE HELMET. OTHERWISE RIDERS WILL NOT BE ALOWED TO RACE.
